Winter Challenge

THEME: Use of Negative Space This challenge is a modified version of a challenge by Carole Lyles Shaw and is designed to give us a chance to explore and experiment with the principles of negative space in modern quilt design. DIRECTIONS: Create a mini quilt that emphasizes negative space. As a general rule of thumb, negative space should cover at least 40% (or more) of the quilt top. SIZE: No side can be longer than 24 inches. Your quilt must be pieced and quilted entirely by you. You may use your own design or an existing quilt design for this challenge, make sure to credit the designer. PALETTE AND FABRIC: The colour palette for this challenge is Black/Grey, White and one Pop of Color. You can use prints or solids. Pop of Color should be less than 10% (approximately). QUILTING: Use a contemporary approach to quilting your mini. However, it does not have to be straight line quilting—there are many options available. GETTING HELP AND POSTING ON SOCIAL MEDIA: If you need help with your project, feel free to bring your in-progress work to any meeting and grab a couple members at the meeting for a ‘private consult’. Feel free to post fabrics ideas, the pattern you’ve chosen and progress pics but please keep the final reveal until the meeting (it would be really cool to see all the completed projects as a surprise.) DUE DATE: Completed projects are due for Show and Tell at our March 22 2020 Meeting. (3 month timeframe) Projects must be pieced, quilted and  bound. Please hashtag your posts with #wmqgwinterchallenge2020
